vastlesssmudge catalogue

vastlesssmudge releases available now through BLAST MY MUSIC

The most famous band that no one has ever heard of

In 1983 I started a recording project called VASTLESSSMUDGE, which lasted for 12 years.
(1983-1995 if you're counting)

I started overdubbing using 2 cassette decks, a radio shack mixer, two dinner plates, a small toy flute and a garbage can to record my first track "Sculptural Depression" ~ which featured the barking of my new puppy Kali.

In 1987 while attending The Cleveland Institute of Art, I cross registered at The Cleveland Institute of Music and took a course
in multi-track recording, where I produced "My First Trip To the Orient" & "The Civilization of the Yellow River" for class
assignments.

In 1995 I purchased a 4 track, and recorded the tracks which became Microgroove, the final vastlesssmudge recording project.

The Fourth World, the present one, is the full expression of man's ruthless materialism
and imperialistic will; and man himself represents the gross appetites of flesh. With
this turn man rises upward, bringing into predominant function each of the higher centers. The door at the crown of the head opens, and he merges into the wholness of all Creation, whence he sprang.
    ~ Hopi Indian teaching

The problem of art is inseparable from the problem of consciousness.

The warfare is psychic now. Whoever controls the language, the images, controls the race.
    ~ Allen Ginsberg

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last.

    -------------------------------------------------

    Everywhere, I follow you
    O' Lord,
you have just turned the corner
    and disappeared into the crowd.
    O' Siva,
    my glowing psychedelic blue Lord,
dark as the indigo night skies.
    One day,
I shall trick you into a meeting
    face to face.
    In that instant
when you shine as the world
    far flung in the stars
    and near my transparent pulse,
I shall surprise you in the act.
Then, looking into your startled but fearless eyes,
    O' Lord,
I can be drowned at last
    in utter union.

    Loopyoga

    Listen

From the compilation "Loops To Find the Time"
    House of Pingting Music, 2001

Loop Yoga is a recording project that I began in 1998 to facilitate my yoga & meditation practice. Loop Yoga utilizes “sampled music” in the creation of repetitious sound currents with the intention of deeply connecting to the divinity encased within a sound structure.

Loop Yoga was created using Macromedia Soundedit 16 & an Apple McIntosh PowerPC 8600.

Loneliness expresses the pain of being alone. Solitude expesses the glory of being alone. The innermost nature of solitude is the presence of the eternal upon the crowded roads of the temporal.

    Jerry & Lena's Christmas Part 1

Jerry & Lena's Christmas is one of the absolute GEMS of my record
collection. It is a home-made 78 rpm disc (Christmas greeting) made in December 17, 1944
by Jerry & Lena and their three children Marie & Loretta (Peachy) & baby Geraldine.
It was sent to Aunt Clara & Uncle Newly. I found it in a Pittsburgh thrift store in 1987.
